Common Core Math: Grade 6: Statistics & Probability

In sixth grade, students recognize and write statistical questions and describe the resulting data. A description of a data distribution includes measures of center, spread and overall shape. Students use the median and mean as measures of center and the interquartile range or mean absolute deviation as measures of spread. Students note overall patterns in data, including the number of observations, the nature of the measurements performed and notable deviations from overall patterns. Students display data using dot plots, histograms and box plots.
