Common Core Math: Grade 3

In third grade, students perform arithmetic up to one hundred and use place value to extend their knowledge of addition, subtraction and multiplication up to one thousand. Students solve equations for unknown values and explore patterns in arithmetic. Students tell time, measure mass and liquid volume of objects and compute area and perimeter of rectangles. The concept of fractions is introduced. Students understand fractions as numbers representing parts of a whole and use visual models to compare fractions. Students use fractions to describe partitioned shapes and to measure lengths of objects. Students display data using line plots, picture graphs and bar graphs.
