Common Core Math: Grade 8: Statistics & Probability

In eighth grade, students work with two-dimensional data, i.e. data for two related quantities. Students construct scatter plots to analyze patterns in relationships between two variables. Based on graphs, tables and equations, students assess whether data indicates linear or nonlinear associations. Students use linear functions to approximate bivariate relationships, including by interpreting the slope and intercept of linear models in the context of real-world data. Students also analyze data using two-way tables to demonstrate associations between two variables.
